I'm just happy it's working at all, even though I have no explanation. I haven't gone back to try to make it work on the Mac. I chose FT857 since it's almost identical to the 897. Finally, at the suggestion of another forum member, I tried another Rig selection. I kept getting the Protocol error no matter what settings I used or how many times I rebooted the computer. Feeling like I finally had the problem solved, I tried it with WSJT-X and set the rig to FT897. So I switch to an older PC I have, but had problems installing the Silicon Labs CP210x drivers.After downloading it from the Silicon Labs website and several uninstall/reinstall attempts it decided to work and showed COM3 and COM4 as the COM ports. I'm generally a Mac user, but could not get the VCP to work on my MacBook Pro. The biggest issues for me was the Virtual Com Port installation. Apparently the CT-62 (purchased from Vally Enterprises) does not require drivers since it is a pass-through. The Yaesu instructions for the SCU-17 calls for 3 cables: a supplied USB from the 17 to the 857/897, a mini-DIN to mini-DIN for data and an RS232/CAT serial to mini-DIN CT-62 for CAT control. I had planned another sound card hookup, but went with the Yaesu SCU-17 as my neighbor already had that hooked up and working through his FT891.
